Filteroo® 8” Rain & City Water Carbon Block Gravity Water Filter Cartridges
These carbon block cartridges are universally compatible with a wide range of gravity water filter systems. Each pack includes two cartridges, a priming washer, and clear instructions for easy setup. Measuring 200mm in height and 60mm in diameter (each cartridge), they are designed primarily for use with Filteroo® Steel gravity water filters. However, they are equally well-suited for other brands used to filter rainwater from storage tanks or chemically treated city tap water.
Featuring a standard 12.5mm threaded end, the cartridges can be effortlessly installed in most gravity water filters, provided the top tank has a hole size ranging from a minimum of 12.5mm to a maximum of about 20mm. (Note: If necessary, you can modify the hole in your water filter’s top tank to be 12.5mm.)
PLEASE NOTE: if you required fluoride removal, Filteroo® 8” Rain & City Water Carbon Block Gravity Water Filter Cartridges can only be used with the Filteroo® Max Fluoride Reduction Cartridges. They do not fit the Berkey PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Reduction Elements as these have a custom thread that only fits the Black Berkey Elements. So in summary, the Filteroo® 8” Rain & City Water Carbon Block will fit into all the Berkey Gravity water systems but must be used only with the Filteroo® Max Fluoride Reduction Cartridges.
Notably, these cartridges deliver a significantly faster flow rate compared to traditional ceramic gravity candles. It has undergone rigorous testing and consistently produces healthy, contaminant-free, and great-tasting water.
For those filtering rainwater, they are highly effective at eliminating bugs, bacteria, and potential contaminants like herbicides, pesticides, or lead that could enter from the roof. Many people already appreciate the quality of rainwater, but once it passes through a substantial carbon block like this, it becomes even more delightful.
When used with treated city water, these cartridges offers excellent protection against bugs, bacteria, common contaminants like chlorine and its by-products, as well as potential herbicides, pesticides, or heavy metals.
Manufactured using top-grade carbon, these Filteroo® rain & city water carbon block gravity water filtration cartridges employ mechanical filtration and physical adsorption processes to reduce various drinking water contaminants, addressing both aesthetic and health concerns.
The cartridge’s sleek outer shell is carefully compressed to repel sediments, cysts, bugs, or bacteria. The carbon’s pore structure ensures ample contact time, making these cartridges ideal for enhancing taste and odor.
In summary, finding a superior carbon block gravity cartridge is a challenge—this one fits the bill.
Unique Features
What sets this product apart is the exceptional carbon used for the carbon block cartridges and the meticulous manufacturing process, which has passed rigorous tests, ensuring high removal rates of contaminants. As water slowly passes through the cartridge, it benefits from extended contact time, enabling the removal of a wide range of contaminants. Manufactured for Filteroo® Australia, which consistently upholds the use of top-quality materials, these single carbon block gravity cartridges are highly efficient filters suitable for removing unwanted contaminants from any water source, whether it’s rainwater or chemically treated city water.
If fluoride removal is desired, it’s simple to attach the Filteroo® Max Fluoride Reduction Cartridges to the bottom thread of the carbon cartridges.

Up to 12-Month Lifespan
These cartridges offer a convenient service life of up to 12 months. They are designed for hassle-free replacement, necessitating a change as needed or, at the latest, every 12 months, whichever comes first. Their recommended maximum usage capacity is 2000 litres.
As a result of the filtration process that removes particulates and sediments from the water, the flow rate from the filter may gradually decrease over time.
If you notice a slowdown in the cartridge’s water flow rate, it’s typically due to the exterior of the cartridge becoming clogged with fine sediments. The accumulation of these sediments can impact the flow rate over time, depending on the sediment concentration in the water supply used to fill the top tank.
To restore the water flow to its normal rate, simply remove the cartridge and follow the backwashing instructions to flush out the sediments and return them outside the cartridge.
In cases where backwashing doesn’t resolve the issue, you can use 100 grit sandpaper or a new Skotchbrite scour pad to scrub the outside of the cartridge under a flowing tap, ensuring that the open-ended thread does not come into contact with the water to prevent contamination. You can scrub the cartridge vigorously, as it is quite thick and can withstand multiple cleanings.
Fully disposable cartridges
You can break up the old cartridges with a hammer into small pieces and put the crushed carbon into the garden, then place the plastic end caps into the recycling bin. Or simply wrap your worn-out cartridges up in old newspaper and place them into your rubbish bin.

Installation
When installing or replacing any water filtration cartridges, ensure you know what you are doing or have a qualified person to help you or contact us for assistance. Please find paper instructions inside every cartridge box.
- Cleanliness is important. Wash hands before handling the cartridge and take care to ensure that no contamination of the cartridge occurs during assembly.
- Pre prime the cartridge as instructed in the priming instructions.
- Use a glove or similar so your hands don’t touch the cartridge as much as possible.
- Remove the locking nut & leave the sealing washer over the threaded stem.
- Place the filter candle thread through the hole in the upper section of the top housing from the inside out and secure it with the wing nut.
- Do not overtighten.
- Ensure that the outlet tap is in the off position.
- Fill the upper chamber with cold water and allow this to filter down through to the lower section.
- It is recommended that this first supply of filtered water is thrown away, as it may contain material washed from the filter element.
- Some black carbon fines may be seen when first using but this is harmless & will stop fast.
- Fill the upper chamber again, open the outlet tap and allow this water to run to waste again.
- We recommend flowing at least 12 litres of water through the cartridge to waste until it is tasty and flowing clear.
- If you are using the mineral pad, rinse that under water for 5 seconds to remove any media fines & sit the pad on the inside base of your Filteroo® Steel.
The filter is now ready for use.
